Lou Fusz Lacrosse Summer STAR Program

Lou Fusz Lacrosse has developed a new pathway for athletes to learn and master the game of lacrosse, which has been called "the fastest sport on two feet." Our STAR program is the third step in our development model, which is intended to provide athletes with high energy instruction with small groups to maximize reps. STAR program will consist of 6, one hour and a half sessions on Wednesday Nights from 6-7:30 PM at our World Class Turf Facility in Creve Coeur. STAR athletes will wear all the equipment necessary for their respective sport (All equipment needed will be listed below. Any questions about equipment or where to get it, please contact our STAR director).

The emphasis of our STAR League is fundamental development, so games will be stopped at any time by refs or coaches to teach or substitute if needed! Safety is our utmost concern so checking will be kept to a minimum, teaching our athletes feet-first close-out defense. Our STAR Program graduates will be directed to our competitive Blue Star teams, enroll in another season of STAR Program to continue our fundamental development, or head back to your local community to help our mission to "Grow the Game!"

Days: Wednesdays, June 14-July 26
Time: 6:00p-7:30p
$200
6 games included

FAQs

For what ages/skill development is STAR program intended?

Ages 9 - 14 OR Players that have graduated from our Rookies Program

What is the weekly time commitment?

  • Each STAR session will consist of TWO 45 minute blocks on Wednesdays in June/July from 6 - 7:30 PM at our World Class Outdoor Turf Facility.
    • First block will consist of small group stations/drills with top area coaches and players.
    • Second block will put our athletes onto teams to play a 45 minute game. Games will consist of two running 20 minute halves, with a 5 minute halftime.

What type of equipment is needed for this STAR Program?

  • Boys Equipment Needs:
    • Stick
    • Helmet
    • Shoulder Pads
    • Elbow Pads
    • Gloves
    • Mouth Guard
      • Need more guidance on what you need? Contact our STAR Director!

How will the games be played?

  • 10U and younger - 6v6 small-field games played with small goals and no goalies! Everyone plays with a shorty, unless previous discussed with STAR director. When a goal is scored, the team that was scored upon will take the ball to encourage continuous game play. Faceoffs will start play after a full stoppage (substitution, start game, or halftime). Everyone will play equal minutes! The goal of the Lou Fusz Lacrosse STAR program is to instill a love for the sport of lacrosse so official score will not be kept.
  • 11 years old or older - 6v6 small-field games played with regulation sized goals and goalies (if available, shot blocker if not). Players will be able to utilize their long poles on defense/LSM to help continue their development within this specific part of the boys game. Faceoffs will start play after every goal, so our players can understand the flow of a true lacrosse game. Hockey subbing (similar to the real game) will be allowed during these games.

How will practices be structured?

  • Practices will be held with a ratio of 10:1 Coach to Player. Teams will be separated during practices, in order to encourage all of our STAR athletes to play together and become friends! All of our coaches will run drills from our Lou Fusz Lacrosse Curriculum emphasizing different fundamentals through fun, high-energy instruction. Players will cycle between games and drills, with a main focus on keeping all of our athletes engaged throughout practice and games!

Who will be coaching these practices?

  • Our STAR Program is led by our STAR Lacrosse Director, Coach Jeff Fell. Coach Fell is the current Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at John Burroughs High School Lacrosse, previously serving as Head JV Coach at MICDS. Coach Fell hails from Long Island, NY, where lacrosse is taught to their youth as early as Kindergarten! He will be joined by top local college and high school level coaches and players, to ensure we keep a coaching ratio of 10:1. All of our drills and station work will taken from our Lou Fusz Lacrosse Curriculum, developed by current and former D1 and D3 college coaches and players.
